A First Look at Cepheids in a Type Ia Supernova Host with JWST

چکیده
We report the first look at extragalactic Cepheid variables with James Webb Space Telescope, obtained from a serendipitous (to this purpose) observation of NGC 1365, host an SN Ia (SN 2012fr), calibration path used to measure Hubble constant. As expected, high-resolution observations NIRCam through F200W show better source separation line-of-sight companions than HST images similar near-infrared wavelengths, spectral region that has been mitigate impact dust on distance measurements. Using standard star P330E as zeropoint and PSF reference, we photometered 31 previously-known Cepheids in JWST field, spanning 1.15 < log P 1.75 including 24 longer period interval 1.35 1.75. compared resultant Period-Luminosity relations 49 full range 38 observed WFC3/IR transformed photometric system (F200W, Vega). The P-L measured two space telescopes are good agreement, intercepts (at P=1) 25.74+/-0.04 25.72+\-0.05 for JWST, respectively. Our baseline result comes where have higher signal-to-noise ratios find 25.75+\-0.05 25.75+\-0.06 mag consistency between measurement HST, no evidence photometry is "biased bright" ~0.2 level would be needed Tension, though comparisons more hosts warranted anticipated. expect future surpass these quality they will optimized measuring Cepheids.

Cosmological Inference from Host-Selected Type Ia Supernova Samples
We compare two Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) samples that are drawn from a spectroscopically confirmed SN Ia sample: a host-selected sample in which SNe Ia are restricted to those that have a spectroscopic redshift from the host; and a broader, more traditional sample in which the redshift could come from either the SN or the host. The host-selected sample is representative of SN samples that will ...
متن کاملThe Type Ia Supernova
We present the rst measurement of the rate of Type Ia super-novae at high redshift. The result is derived using a large subset of data from the Supernova Cosmology Project as described in more detail at this meeting by Perlmutter et al. (1996). We present our methods for estimating the numbers of galaxies and the number of solar luminosities to which the survey is sensitive, the supernova detec...
متن کاملThe Type Ia Supernova Rate
We explore the idea that the Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) rate is made up of two components: a prompt piece that is proportional to the star formation rate (SFR) and an extended piece that is proportional to the total stellar mass. We fit the parameters of this model to the local observations of Mannucci and collaborators and then study its impact on three important problems. On cosmic scales, t...
متن کاملSUBMILLIMETER EMISSION FROM TYPE Ia SUPERNOVA HOST GALAXIES AT Z = 0.5
We present deep submillimeter observations of 17 galaxies at z 1⁄4 0:5 that are hosts of a Type Ia supernova. Two galaxies are detected directly, and the sample is detected statistically with a mean 850 m flux of 1:01 0:33 mJy, which is 25%–135% higher than locally. We infer that the mean value of AV in normal galaxies at z 1⁄4 0:5 is comparable to or greater than the mean AV in local normal ga...
متن کاملType Ia Supernova Light Curves
The diversity of Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) photometry is explored using a grid of 130 one-dimensional models. It is shown that the observable properties of SNe Ia resulting from Chandrasekhar-mass explosions are chiefly determined by their final composition and some measure of “mixing” in the explosion. A grid of final compositions is explored including essentially all combinations of Ni, stabl...
